Young People

Our centre, facilities and activities are aimed at young people aged 13 to 19. Any young person within this age range can access our services and activities.

Within this age range, we aim to work with some specific groups of young people:

Young people who are post-sixteen and who are not in education, employment or training. These are young people who do not engage in meaningful activity and 'hang around' the area during the day. These young people have finished full-time education and have not continued in training or education. Some of these young people lack the skills, and in some cases the inclination to find employment. We support them through our open-access, drop-in sessions and Customize, our training programme for 16-19 year olds.

Young people who are under the age of sixteen and are at risk of not attending school or are struggling at school. We support them through our Supported Learning Programme and through positive activities that will engage them after school hours, such as our open-access, drop-in sessions.

Many of the young people we work with have multiple issues and barriers that inhibit them from making positive progress within their lives. Rhema Youth Works offers holistic life support to vulnerable young people in Hull. We offer the opportunity for change by helping to increase their self-esteem and self-confidence, offering them time and space to think about what they need to move on from the difficulties and problems that they face.

Why Rhema?

So why do young people access Rhema? We asked them and these are some of the things they said:

“Nice centre” “Best thing around here” “Friends”
“Get support” “Good opening hours” “Pool”
“To chill out” “Loads of different things to do” “It’s free”
“Safe place” “Nice people” “Decks”
“Learn stuff” “Something to do” “Trips”
“Xbox 360” “Free drinks” “Cool”
“Get help” “Keeps you out of trouble” “Internet”
“Good games” “It’s the only youth centre like this” “Tidy”
