Young Women's Group


What is the Young Women's Group? We asked them:

"We are a group of girls aged 13-19 who meet from 6:30-9pm every Monday evening. The group gives us a chance to have a break from boys and talk about things that are important to us girls.

We drink tea and chat, play lots of 'Singstar' and do lots of other fun stuff like games, pampering, T-shirt painting, parties, photoshoots, trips and much, much more.

We also talk about things we want to know more about like sex education, healthy eating, bullying, body image, etc.

Not forgetting our weekend away at Butlins, which was great fun and we're hoping to get the chance to go away again soon."

Butlins Trip

The group decided that they would like to have a residential trip in the summer to look forward to finishing their GCSE’s. And so, on Friday 25th July 2008, myself and a volunteer took a small group of the girls to Butlins, Skegness for the weekend. The girls had raised money themselves for the weekend by applying to the Youth Opportunity Fund and were very involved in planning the weekend.

We all had a really good weekend and the weather was lovely. While we were there we went swimming, went on the flumes at the fun pool and we had a morning in the spa. We went to the beach where the girls all buried me in the sand and we went to the funfair and bowling. On the evenings we went along to the evening entertainment where we saw Nikki from the X-factor, joined in quizzes, saw shows, danced lots and had our pictures taken with Butlins redcoats. We had great fun and by the time we left we were all exhausted but sad to come home.
